Pico challenges Quest 2's market & Nvidia launches Omniverse Cloud

ByteDance’s new Pico headset to compete with the Quest 2. The device is described as a full-featured but affordable VR Headset option for games and passive entertainment. A limited preorder opens in August, with general preorders starting in October and the device shipping on October 18th.
Sony’s PSVR 2 will not be backwards compatible with PSVR games. The news was broken by Hideaki Nishino on the PlayStation Blog podcast, where he said that the new headset will not be backwards compatible as it is “designed to deliver a truly next-generation VR experience.”
Nvidia has launches Nvidia Omniverse Cloud. This will allow artists, developers, and enterprise teams to design, publish, operate, and experience metaverse applications from anywhere. The technology uses the cloud to tap into the power of data centers. More than 700 companies and 200,000 people are already using Omniverse.
Niantic has launched Lightship VPS for Web, which allows developers to create web-based augmented reality experiences that are anchored in and interact with real-world locations using the 8th wall platform. This makes the augmented reality experience feel more personal and immersive.

Taqtile announced that they have raised $5 million in preferred equity. Taqtile makes augmented reality (AR) solutions for deskless employees. They will use this money to increase sales and marketing efforts, reinforce engineering and development teams, and increase their global footprint.
Hadean raised $30 million to build out its virtual infrastructure technology. The London-based Web3 company's technology will be used to create virtual worlds for entertainment, education, and enterprise projects.
Virtus Tech has secured £300,000 in pre-seed funding to accelerate its growth plans building software for businesses to build VR training simulations. The start-up has received backing from SFC Capital as well as angel investors.

Banking comes to the Metaverse. Mana VR lets you take control of your Manaverse checking account in a fully immersive VR environment.
French Engineers develop AR app to guide blind people around big cities. The app identifies the most practical route for them and uses “spatial sound” to guide them.
